MEN’S BASKETBALL LANDS UNLV TRANSFER JEREMIAH ‘BEAR’ CHERRY

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State head coach Mike Bibby announced today that 6-foot-11 forward Jeremiah "Bear" Cherry will transfer from UNLV and play next season as a senior with the Hornets.

Since being introduced as the Hornets' head coach on April 1, Bibby has signed three players - Cherry, redshirt freshman guard Taj Glover, and senior forward Shaqir O'Neal.

• A 6-foot-11, 250-pound forward from San Diego, Calif.
• Transfer from UNLV who will enter his senior season with the Hornets
• Played his junior season (2024-25) at UNLV, after spending first two collegiate years (2022-24) at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, N.M.
• Last season, he helped UNLV to an 18-15 overall record and 11-9 mark in the Mountain West Conference
• Played in 33 games (including 32 starts) for the Rebels while averaging 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 23.8 minutes
• Shot 63% (136-217) from the field, and ranked second in the Mountain West in blocked shots
• Scored in double figures 15 times, including eight of the final 12 games of the season
• 24 points and 11 rebounds vs. Alabama State, 19 points (9-11 FG) vs. Boise State, 10 points and nine rebounds vs. Nevada, 16 points vs. Colorado State, and 14 points at New Mexico
• As a sophomore at New Mexico Junior College, he started all 32 games while averaging 12.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, and shooting 62% from the field
• Named the WJCAC Freshman of the Year after averaging 11.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks while shooting 49% from the field. Played in 30 games, including 28 starts
• A 2022 graduate of Saint Mary's Catholic High School in Phoenix, Ariz.
• Played four seasons for the varsity team, helping the program to a 4A championship
• Named first team all-conference as a senior after averaging 16.2 points and 11.3 rebounds
