FAIRFAX, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's golf team had three players finish the third-round under par and placed fourth overall as a team in one of the top tournaments in the West on Tuesday. The Hornets topped three teams which entered the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational ranked in the top 50 and only finished behind top-ranked Stanford, No. 3 Oregon and No. 4 USC in the 14-team field.

Freshman
Darla May Dela Torre led Sacramento State on Tuesday with a 2-under par round of 70. Dela Torre began the day with a double bogey on her first hole but was back at even through eight holes with three birdies and a bogey. After five pars, Dela Torre made her move with birdies on the par-5 first and par-4 second and third to get to 3-under. She ended her day with a bogey on the par-3 fifth and finished tied for 15
th place at 76-71-70-217.

Sneha Sharan had the top finish on the team, placing fifth with rounds of 67-70-71-207 to end at 9-under par. The 54-hole total is tied for the second-best in school history and was four strokes better than her previous best. The senior was the only player outside of the 150 in the nation that finished among the top seven and was one of only five in the top 15. Sharan had a relatively quiet third round which saw her par her first hole and then bogey the par-3 eighth. She returned to even with a birdie on No. 10 and moved to 1-under with a birdie on the par-5 13
th. Sharan closed the tournament with eight straight pars.

Caitlin Maurice provided her best round of the tournament and also shot 71. Maurice birdied her third hole (No. 9) and had pars on every other hole with the exception of a birdie on the par-4 17
th and a bogey on the par-4 18
th. She moved up 17 spots in the standings on Tuesday and tied for 30
th overall at 77-73-71-221.

Florencia Dufey, who was competing as an individual, recorded a top-20 finish of her own as she was 18
th. Dufey shot 73 in the final round after posting scores of 75 and 70 on Monday. Dufey parred her first six holes of the third round before a double bogey on the par-4 third. She had a birdie on No. 9 to go along with 11 pars to round out the day.

Stanford pulled away during the final round to earn the team title. The Cardinal were 12-under as a team during the day and finished the tournament at 29-under. Oregon was second at 21-under while USC took third at 7-under. Sacramento State finished six-strokes ahead of Denver which was fifth.

The individual title was shared between USC's Jasmine Koo, Oregon's Karen Tsuru and Stanford's Paula Martin Sampedro who each were 13-under over the two days. All three golfers are among the top 75 in the nation, led by Koo who is ranked second.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii on Mar. 24-26.
