WOMEN'S GOLF TIED FOR FOURTH AFTER FIRST ROUND OF DR. DONNIS THOMPSON INVITATIONAL

Sharan tied for sixth place after 3-under par round

LAHAINA, Hawaii — Led by a 3-under par round of 69 from Sneha Sharan, the Sacramento State women's golf team is in fourth place after the first round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Monday at Ka'anapali Golf Resort.
 
The Hornets were 2-under par as a team during the round and are four shots back of Mercer for the team lead. Oregon State is in second place at 5-under while Washington is third at 3-under.
 
Sharan bogeyed her first hole (No. 11) and then parred her next seven holes. Once on the front side of the course, Sharan birdied the par-5 first to get back to even. Following three pars, she birdied Nos. 5, 6 and 7 and added another birdie on the par-5 ninth. The senior ended the round with a bogey on the par-4 10th hole. Her score of 69 ties her for sixth place and is 1-stroke back of five golfers who share the lead at 4-under.
 
Caitlin Maurice is tied for 10th place at 2-under. Maurice was 3-over through her first nine holes before catching fire over Nos. 4-7. Maurice began her run with birdies on the par-4 fourth and fifth and then eagled the 440-yard, par-5 sixth. She closed the stretch with a birdie on the par-4 seventh to get to 2-under and ended the round with four consecutive pars.
 
Darla May Dela Torre finished the first round at 1-over and is tied for 38th place. Dela Torre had two birdies, a bogey and a double bogey in the round. The final score towards the team total came from Florencia Dufey who shot 74. Dufey was 4-over through seven holes but rallied behind a birdie on No. 4 and an eagle on No. 6. She played her final seven holes at 1-over with six pars and a bogey.
 
Tova Hatton, who is playing as an individual, matched Dufey's score of 74. Dufey had three birdies and five bogeys in her round. Ella Kraft rounded out the lineup with a 75 and is tied for 61st. Kraft's round was comprised of two birdies and five bogeys.
 
The tournament will continue with the second round on Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m. PT.
