WOMEN'S GOLF LED BY MAURICE IN SECOND ROUND OF PDI INTERCOLLEGIATE

Hornets sit in 10th place heading into final round

ORLANDO, Fla. — Caitlin Maurice's 2-under par round of 70 helped the Sacramento State women's golf finish the second round of the PDI Intercollegiate at even as a team on Monday.

After a lengthy fog delay, Maurice opened second-round play with a birdie on the par-4 10th and added a second on the par-5 14th. Following a bogey on No. 14, she added birdies on the par-5 16th and par-4 first to drop to 3-under on the day. A bogey on No. 2 was leveled by a birdie on the par-5 fourth and she remained at 3-under until a double bogey on the par-3 eighth. Maurice closed the round with a birdie on the par-4 ninth.

Sneha Sharan also finished the round in the red. Sharan parred her first three holes before moving to 2-under with birdies on Nos. 13, 15 and 16 and a bogey on No. 14. She parred 10 of her final 11 holes with the exception being a bogey on the par-3 fifth.

Tova Hatton and Ella Kraft each shot 73 on Monday. Hatton was even on the back side of the course with a bogey on the par-3 11th and a birdie on the par-4 15th. She was 1-over on the front side with eight pars and a bogey on the par-4 second.

Kraft was 3-over through her first five holes but rebounded to get back to 1-over. Her first birdie came on the par-5 18th and was trailed by five consecutive pars. A birdie on the par-4 sixth moved her to 1-over and she finished there following a bogey on No. 8 and a birdie on No. 9.

Darla May Dela Torre shot 74 in the round with a birdie and three bogeys.

Due to anticipated fog on Tuesday morning, the third round was started immediately following the second. Sacramento State is currently 2-under during the third round with the members of the team finishing between 6-9 holes before play was halted.

Baylor remains the team leader at 26-under. The 27th-ranked Bears are trailed by No. 13 North Carolina (18-under), No. 18 Duke (18-under), No. 10 Mississippi State (17-under) and No. 36 UCF (15-under) in the top five.
