FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Eliana Coburn finished in fourth place in the pentathlon and
Jack Charlton and
Joshua Braun are both among the top 10 in the heptathlon after the first day of the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at the J.L. Walkup Skydome.

Coburn totaled 3,692 points in the five events and finished among the top four for the third consecutive year at the conference indoor meet. She opened the day by tying her season best with a 60-hurdles time of 8.77 which was the third-fastest in the field. Coburn went on to clear 5-05.00 in the high jump and then had a season-best shot put of 37-01.25. Both of those marks were the fourth best among the 13 competitors. She added a long jump of 16-11.25 and ran the 800 in 2:27.96.

The top of the pentathlon standings was tightly bunched as the top five finishers were separated by just 225 points. The pentathlon was won by Montana's Whitney Morrison who finished with 3,877 points. Kylee Dimick of Idaho State was second with 3,793 while Shelby Schweyen of Montana State completed the all-conference honorees with 3,781 points.

Montana had a second athlete in the top eight and leads the team standings with 14 points. Sacramento State is in fourth place with the five points secured from Coburn.

After the first four events of the heptathlon,
Jack Charlton is in fifth place and
Joshua Braun is ninth. Charlton had a time of 7.15 seconds in the 60-meter dash, a long jump 20-04.25, a season-best shot put of 41-11.50 and cleared 5-09.75 in the high jump.

Braun opened with season bests of 7.33 in the 60 and a long jump of 20-08.50. After a shot put of 30-00.75, he set his career best with a clearance of 5-08.50 in the high jump.

Charlton will head into the final three events with 2,716 points while Braun has 2,436. The pair are chasing Montana State's Nicola Paletti who had 2,890 points. The gap to second place, however, is much closer as Charlton is just 52 points shy of Mathias Mees of MSU.

Along with the final three events of the heptathlon, the main program of the meet will start on Friday and then continue to Saturday.
