SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's tennis pairing of Lou Baudouin and Irene Riva advanced to the semifinals of the doubles consolation bracket over the weekend at the ITA Conference Masters Championship in San Diego, Calif.
It continues a stellar fall for the tandem, who are playing their first season together as a doubles team. Baudouin and Riva reached the main draw semifinals at the ITA Northwest Regionals, the Cal Fall Invitational, and posted a ranked win at the Battle in the Bay Classic to kick-off the fall.
Two of their three contests were decided in three sets over the weekend as Baudouin and Riva opened their run in San Diego with a loss to Delaware's Maryia Hrynashka and Paulina Jurkowska. The Hornets rallied for a 7-5 win in the second set to force the decisive tiebreaker won by the Blue Hens' duo, 10-6
Baudouin and Riva then advanced to the quarterfinals in consolation play after a Pepperdine team withdrew and a bye. The tandem then dispatched of Murray State's Varvara Alexeyeva and Barbora Hermanova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to set up a clash with North Florida's eighth-seeded duo of Laurie Barendse and Isabel Oliveira.
Sacramento State's team got off to a quick start, blanking the Osprey duo, 6-0, in the opening set before Barendas and Oliveira took the final two sets, 6-4 and 10-6.
The Hornets close out the fall schedule with a trip to Tucson, Ariz., this weekend, participating in the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Arizona from Nov. 14-16 at the Tucson Racquet Club.
