SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team will play its third tournament in a month as the Hornets will make their yearly return to the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational. This year's tournament will take place at The Reserve and will be held on Oct. 9-11 with a single-round each day.

The Hornets will be making their 24th appearance at the tournament since 1991. The tournament has been held at six different courses in the Stockton area. The Reserve will host the event for the seventh time since 1999.

Team Notes

• Zach Mate, Gabriel Smith and Max Thomas are the only members of the team that have been in the lineup in all three tournaments this fall. Smith has the lowest scoring average among the three at 71.50 and has been at or below par in four of his six rounds.
• Sacramento State will play the same five players as it did at the Colorado Mark Simpson Invitational.
• The Hornets won the team title at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational in 2015.
• The team has had four top-three finishers at the event, including a win by Robert Hamilton in 1997 after shooting 69-67-70-206.

The Last Time at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational

Luke Dugger and Max Thomas each totaled 212 to tie for 30th place and lead the team at last season's event at Stockton Country Club. Dugger shot 73-69-70 while Thomas had rounds of 70-70-72. Sacramento State finished in 11th place out of 15 teams with a total of 285-287-293-855. The tournament was won by San Diego which finished the event at 820 and was four strokes clear of host Pacific.
