WOMEN'S GOLF USES ITS BEST ROUND TO FINISH NINTH AT RAINBOW WAHINE

Hatton ties for 11th overall after shooting 69 in third round

LIHUE, Hawaii — The Sacramento State women's golf team recorded its best score of the tournament in the final round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Wednesday at the Ocean Course Hokuala. The Hornets were 3-over par as a team during the round and improved four positions in the standings to place ninth overall.
 
Sacramento State was led by sophomore Tova Hatton who shot 69 in the third round and vaulted into 11th place overall at 74-72-69-215. Hatton began the round with a birdie on the par-5 10th before returning to even with a bogey on the par-3 14th. She made the turn at 2-under with birdies on the par-4 16th and par-3 17th. Hatton continued her round on the front side, with birdies on Nos. 2, 4 and 6 (all par 5s). She remained at 5-under until a double-bogey on the par-3 eighth and closed with a par.
 
Freshman Sophia Lee matched her season best with a 1-under par 71 on Wednesday. Lee started her day with a bogey on No. 12 and then parred her next five holes. A birdie on the par-4 18th moved her back to even where she stayed until a bogey on the par-4 third. After six pars, she wrapped up the event with birdies on Nos. 10 and 11. Lee tied for 43rd overall with rounds of 74-78-71-223.
 
Fellow freshman Jocelyn Tseng shot 72 while competing as an individual. Tseng's round was highlighted by an eagle on the 470-yard, par-5 fifth hole. She also had two birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey.
 
Ashley Koga provided a round of 75 and Ella Kraft a 76 to complete the team total. Koga had three birdies, two bogeys and a pair of double bogeys. Kraft had three birdies, three bogeys and two doubles.
 
Baylor ran away with the team title with the help of an 11-under par team score in the third round. The Bears finished the event at 13-under par while Santa Clara and Missouri tied for second place at 4-under. The top five was completed by Eastern Michigan (3-over) and BYU (8-over).
 
Baylor's Yurang Li finished six shots ahead of the rest of the field to win the individual title. Li had rounds of 67-72-65-204.
 
The tournament was the final event of fall portion of the schedule for Sacramento State. The team will return to competition on Feb. 9-10 at the San Diego State Classic.
