KRAFT SHOOTS 66 TO MOVE INTO SECOND PLACE AT GOLF ICONIC CLASSIC

Women's golf in sixth place heading into final round

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Ella Kraft set her career best with a 6-under par round of 66 and is now tied for second place following the second round of the Golf Iconic Classic on Tuesday at the New Mexico State Golf Course. Sacramento State finished the day at 3-under par and is in sixth place.

Kraft picked up a birdie on the first hole and added birdies on Nos. 4, 7 and 8 to move to 4-under. Her lone bogey of the day came on the par-5 ninth and she made the turn at 3-under. After a par on No. 10, the senior birdied the par-3 11th, par-5 12th and par-4 13th to get to 6-under. She closed her round with five-straight pars. Her total took a stroke off her previous best of 67 which came at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in 2024. The 66 places her in a seven-way tie for second place in school history and is just one stroke off of Caitlin Maurice's school record of 65.

Kraft is one stroke behind Northern Colorado's Samantha Colombine in the individual standings. Colombine had the low round of the day as she shot 64 with an eagle and six birdies.

Darla May Dela Torre is tied for 11th place following a 71 in the second round. Dela Torre opened with three pars and then bogeyed the par-5 fourth. She made the turn even with the help of a birdie on the par-5 eighth. The sophomore had a birdie on No. 12 to go along with eight pars on the back side of the course.

The freshmen tandem of Jocelyn Tseng and Sophia Lee completed the team total in the round with scores of 73 and 75, respectively. Tseng bogeyed two of her first four holes (Nos. 2 and 5) before a birdie on the par-3 sixth. She parred nine of her next 10 holes with the exception being a bogey on the par-3 11th. A birdie on No. 17 returned her to 1-over where she finished after two pars.

Lee parred her first six holes but moved to 3-over with a double bogey on No. 9 and a bogey on No. 10. She placed birdies on Nos. 11 and 13 around a bogey on No. 12 to get to 2-over. She ended her round with six pars and a bogey on No. 18 over her final seven holes.

The team's individuals, Ashley Koga and Florencia Dufey, shot 73 and 74 in the second round. Koga had three birdies and four bogeys on Tuesday and is now tied for 32nd place. Dufey had two birdies and four bogeys and is tied for 25th.

Boise State remains the team leader at 15-under but saw its lead trimmed to two strokes as UC Irvine was able to pick up six strokes during the round. Long Beach State is third at 11-under while Northern Colorado moved into fourth (10-under). Santa Clara is the final team in the top five at 8-under.

The tournament will conclude with the third round on Wednesday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. The Hornets will play with Santa Clara, Northern Arizona and Houston Christian.
