SOFTBALL’S ANDREA LIRA NAMED SACRAMENTO STATE’S FEMALE NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Softball's Andrea Lira has been named Sacramento State's Female Newcomer of the Year…the award is given to the top female transfer student-athlete…the Stockton, Calif., native played in 44 games, including 43 starts in her first season with the Hornets…hit .319 (45-for-141) with 17 runs scored, nine doubles and 25 RBIs (second most on the team)…the nine doubles were a team high…named all-Big Sky Tournament after hitting .688 (11-for-18) in four games with six runs, three doubles and three RBIs…hit safely in nine straight at-bats during the tournament - second longest streak in program history and tied for the 16th longest in NCAA Div. I history.

Kate Doorn (Volleyball) -
Played in all 34 matches, and all 130 sets at setter…started the final 19 matches of the season…ran a 6-2 offense with fellow setter Hailey Plugge…helped quarterback the Big Sky's top offense - the Hornets averaged 14.18 kills per set with a .268 hitting percentage in conference play…Doorn averaged 5.42 assists, 1.78 digs and 0.24 aces per set…ranked second on the team with nine double-doubles (assists and digs)…had double-figure digs on nine occasions.

Zoe Ewell (Track & Field) - Set the school record in the 60-meter dash during the indoor season with a time of 7.50 at the Big Sky Championship…placed fifth overall at the meet…competed in the 100, 200 and 4x100 relay at the Big Sky Outdoor Championship…anchored the 4x100 relay team which ran 45.54 for the second-fastest time in school history…fastest 100 was 12.08 at the Hornet Invitational…recorded her PR of 25.05 in the 200 at the Big Sky Championship.

Hailey Plugge (Volleyball) - Appeared in all 34 matches at setter, and all 130 sets…started 15 matches…ran a 6-2 offense with fellow setter Kate Doorn…helped quarterback the Big Sky's top offense - the Hornets averaged 14.18 kills per set with a .268 hitting percentage in conference play…averaged 5.33 assists, 1.72 digs and 0.22 aces per set…named all-tournament at the Hornet Invitational…third on the team with five double-doubles…registered 30 assists on three occasions.
