TRACK AND FIELD’S BREIJA STREDIC NAMED SACRAMENTO STATE’S FEMALE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR

Track and Field's Breija Stredic has been named the Sacramento State Female Freshman of the Year…the Riverside, Calif., native recorded a program top 10 performance in a pair of events…qualified for the NCAA West First Round in the 400-hurdles…finished first in the 400-hurdles at the Sacramento State Invitational and Causeway Classic, and earned all-Big Sky honors after placing second at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships…her time of 58.75 in the Big Sky finals is the third fastest in school history…also ran 11.81 in the 100 which is tied for 10th all-time in the Hornet record book.

Kaylee Godwin (Rowing) - Named the Hornets' Newcomer of the Year after competing with the team's top boat (varsity eight) in all 11 spring races…lone freshman to compete with the varsity eight during the season…sat in the three seat in all 11 races with the boat…helped the boat to a bronze medal at both the American and WIRA Championships…also helped the varsity eight to a five-second win over Kansas State at the Hornet Invitational.

Summah Hanson (Basketball) - Named Big Sky Freshman of the Year (only the second Hornet to win the award)…set the school Div. I single-season record for points by a freshman with 434, while also setting freshman records for games started, minutes (1071), field goals made (161), field goal attempts (372), scoring average (14.0) and rebounds per game (8.8)…14 double-doubles are tied for fifth in the program's Div. I era…led the team in scoring and rebounding…scored in double figures 24 times.

Jillianne Lastra (Gymnastics) - Named second team all-MPSF after finishing the season with an NQS of 9.835…competed on bars in all 13 meets where she did not have a fall the entire year and averaged 9.794…her average is the third-highest in school history and the best since 2012…her NQS is tied for the eighth highest in program history…tallied eight scores of 9.8 or better, including the final three meets and seven of the last eight.

Irene Riva (Tennis) - An all-Big Sky Conference selection in both singles and doubles… finished 20-4 overall on the year - the first Hornet to win 20 matches in a season since 2011…20 wins are tied for fifth on the Hornet single-season list…combined with Maddy Ferreros to go 16-4 at doubles at No. 2, tying for the seventh most single-season doubles wins in school history…helped the Hornets to their first Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament titles since 2014.
