Baseball's Kade Brown has been named the Sacramento State Male Freshman of the Year…the Elk Grove, Calif., native appeared in 22 games as the Hornets' closer, finishing 3-3 with a 3.72 ERA and notched eight saves…the eight saves were the most by a Hornet freshman since 2013…struck out 54 batters over 38.2 innings of work…held opponents to a .189 batting average…led the WAC in opponent batting average and saves, ranked second in strikeouts per nine innings (12.57), third in fewest hits allowed (27), and tied for eighth in fewest runs allowed (19).

OTHER NOMINEES

Bowyn Beatty (Basketball) - Played in all 34 games as a true freshman, including 14 starts…started each of the final 14 games of the season…was a finalist for Big Sky Freshman of the Year…averaged 4.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 17.5 minutes per game…the seven footer shot 35% from the 3-point line, burying a 3-ball in five of the final seven games of the year…during the Hornets' three games at the Big Sky Tournament, he averaged 7.7 points, a team-high 7.7 rebounds, and 3.0 offensive rebounds per game.

Stephen Dahdouh (Track & Field) - Placed sixth at the Big Sky Indoor Championships in the 60-hurdles…ran 8.00 in the qualifying round of that meet - the fourth best mark in school history…recorded the seventh-fastest 60 time by a Hornet after running 6.85 at the Big Sky meet…did not compete during the outdoor season due to a hamstring injury…also competed in both the 200 and 400 during the indoor season.

Diego Lopez (Track & Field) - Placed fifth at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in the hammer behind a career best throw of 194-08 which ranks eighth in school history…finished in first place at the Aggie Open, Sacramento State Invitational and Causeway Classic Dual…threw over 185 feet in four of his seven meets…had a long of 42-03.00 at the UW Invitational…also competed in both the shot put and discus at the Causeway Classic meet.

Brandon Moreno (Track & Field) - Scored for the team by placing eighth at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in the 800…moved into sixth place in school history after winning the Causeway Classic Dual with a time of 1:50.55 in his first collegiate race at that distance…indoors, he set the school record in the mile after running 4:07.75 at the Husky Classic…also recorded the third fastest 1500 in school history with a time of 8:24.94 at the Big Sky Championships.
