BOZEMAN, Mont. — All three of Sacramento State's multi athletes scored points for the team in the final day of the heptathlon and decathlon at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships on Thursday.
Eliana Coburn placed sixth in the heptathlon to earn three points for the women's team while
Joshua Braun was fifth and
Jack Charlton eighth in the decathlon for a combined five points.
Coburn scored for the team in the heptathlon for the third consecutive season as she finished with a seven-event total of 4,649 points. The junior began the second day of the competition with a long jump of 16-02.50. Coburn remained in sixth place following the final two events beginning with a javelin throw of 105-08. She wrapped up the competition by running the 800 in 2:33.72.
Braun ran a career-best 15.94 in the 110-hurdles to start his day. That time was .05 seconds faster than his previous best which came last season. He followed with another PR in the discus of 66-10 which was 4-feet, 3-inches beyond his best entering the meet. Braun made his biggest move up the standings in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-09.00 to set his third PR in as many events during the day. That performance gave him 671 points in the events — the most of any competitor — and placed him third in the standings with two events remaining. The junior closed the meet with a javelin throw of 74-00 and ran the 1500 in 5:11.01 which took over 16 seconds off his best. Overall, Braun set PRs in six of the 10 events for the two days and finished the meet just seven points off his career high despite the tough conditions.
Charlton injured his hamstring on the opening day but was able to gut his way through the final five events on Thursday. His point total resulted in an eighth-place finish to score a point for the team.
The main program will begin on Friday with the first event scheduled for 10:30 a.m. PT. The day will include finals of the men's javelin, women's hammer, men's long jump, men's and women's steeplechase, women's high jump, men's pole vault, women's shot put, men's discus, women's long jump and men's and women's 10K. The day will also have the prelims of all running events with the exception of the relays and the 5K.
