SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State opened the Beach Bash with three matches on Friday, highlighted by a 4-1 victory over ULM.
The Beach Bash, which is a two-day, five-team tournament, began today with five matches at Hornet Beach. Sacramento State played in three of those contests, which included a 4-1 victory over ULM, and 4-1 losses to both San Francisco and Santa Clara. Teams braved constantly changing weather conditions, from sprinkles to heavy rain, to hail, to blue skies and sunshine.
The Hornets close the tournament tomorrow against Pacific at 11:30 a.m. Prior to the match, four seniors -
Lauren Kott,
Karlee Soderberg,
Tiyanane Kamba-Griffin and
Kalani Hayes - will be honored for their contributions to the program.
In today's matches, both
Kalani Hayes/
Ellie Tisko (No. 1) and
Greta Davis/
Caitlin Volkmann (No. 2) posted 2-1 records. Those pairs, along with
Mia Guevara/
Karlee Soderberg (No. 3) and
Ashlynn Archer/
Hailey Plugge (No. 4), posted victories in the 4-1 win over ULM.
Tisko and Volkmann both have 12 victories this season, setting the new Sacramento State individual record for most wins in a season. Volkmann broke her own record, which she set last season with 11. Volkmann also owns the career record for most victories with 33.
Tomorrow is the final home match of the year for the Hornets, who conclude the regular season next week in Berkeley before the Big West Championship (April 25-26) in Long Beach.
