GIBBS IMPROVES TOP 10 MARK IN TRIPLE JUMP AT MT. SAC RELAYS

Team finishes the day with seven season bests

WALNUT, Calif. — John Gibbs recorded a school top 10 performance and Miles Grant matched his career best to highlight the performances for Sacramento State at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday.

Gibbs finished fourth in the triple jump with a wind-aided jump of 49-10.50. That mark is the longest of his career and will be counted towards NCAA regional rankings as the wind reading of 2.4 was below the NCAA  recognized limit of 4.0 meters per second. The senior's top wind-legal mark of 49-05.75 moved him into seventh place in school history and topped his previous long of 49-03.00. Gibbs also set a season best in the long jump at 21-011.50.

Grant tied his career best of 6-09.75 in the high jump. That effort placed him second in the B section of the men's high jump.

The Hornet women tallied three season bests. Ava Fitzgerald opened the day with a time of 13.91 in the 100-hurdles which places her fourth in the Big Sky this season. The team's throwers set season bests in the shot put and discus. Hope Gordon recorded a shot put of 43-03.00 which bettered her mark from the Sacramento State Invitational by 9.5 inches. Breanna Espinoza ended the day with a discus throw of 156-01 which ranks fifth in the Big Sky this season. Espinoza's previous best this season was 149-06.

Along with the marks from Gibbs and Grant, the men had a PR and a season best. In the 200, Jalen Adams ran 21.64 to set his fastest time of the year. Freshman Xavier Bruce added a time of 21.90 to set his career best.

On Saturday, the Hornets had two of their three entries in the hammer throw set personal bests. Jey Rehnvahl bettered their career best by one inch in the women's hammer. Rehnvall threw threw 153-07 on their first attempt of the day. In the men's hammer, Diego Lopez led the way for the team with a best of 177-08.
