DAVIS, Calif. — Zach Mate shot 68 and Luke Dugger added a 72 to guide the Sacramento State men's golf team to an 11th-place finish at the El Macero Classic on Sunday.

Mate's round was the lowest by a Hornet golfer during the event and lifted him into a tie for 48th place at the tournament. Mate opened with two pars beginning with No. 10 and then birdied the par-3 12th, par-4 13th and par-5 15th. He parred his next eight holes and dropped to 5-under following birdies on the par-4 sixth and par-3 seventh. His lone bogey of the day came on the eighth hole and he ended the round with a par.

Dugger had the best finish on the team, tying for 22nd place at 76-74-72-223. Dugger was 1-over through five holes but made the turn at 1-under after birdies on the par-5 15th and 18th. A birdie on the par-5 second dropped him to 2-under but he finished even after bogeys on the par-4 fourth and sixth.

Gabriel Smith and Jeffrey Perry each shot 75 to complete the team total. Smith opened play with a birdie on No. 10 but was left at 2-over after bogeys on Nos. 15, 16 and 17. He played the front side of the course at 1-over with a birdie on No. 2 and bogeys on Nos. 3 and 6.

Perry was 3-over through the first four holes of his rounds but rallied to be even over his final 14 holes.

Saint Mary's recorded its second consecutive round of 286 to win the tournament. The Gaels totaled 879 over the three rounds and defeated Grand Canyon and San Diego by seven strokes. Nevada's Enrique Dimayuga was the medalist at 75-70-64-209.

Sacramento Sate will next compete at the Big Sky Championships in Litchfield Park, Ariz., next Tue.-Thur. (Apr. 23-25).
