SMITH HELPS MEN'S GOLF MOVE UP STANDINGS IN WET ROUND AT EL MACERO CLASSIC

DAVIS, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team moved up to four spots into 11th place during a rainy second day of the El Macero Classic on Saturday.

The Hornets were led by Gabriel Smith who shot 74 to finish the round at 2-over par. Smith played the back nine even with a bogey on the par-3 12th and a birdie on the par-4 13th. Smith dropped below par with a birdie on the first hole before playing his final eight holes at 3-over with a double-bogey on the par-3 third and a bogey on the par-5 fifth,. His is tied for 39th overall with rounds of 79-74-153.

Luke Dugger has the highest overall standing on the team as he is tied for 23rd at 76-74-150. Dugger was 4-over through his first four holes but recorded birdies Nos. 14, 15, 16 and 18 to get back to even par. He moved into red numbers with a birdie on the par-5 second before bogeys on Nos. 4 and 6 and a double bogey on the par-4 ninth left him at 3-over for the day.

Jake Aberle is one shot behind Dugger in the standings and is tied for 31st. Aberle was 3-over through his first seven holes before birdies on the par-4 eighth and par-5 ninth made him 1-over at the turn. He played the front nine at at 3-over with a birdie on the par-3 seventh, two bogeys and a double bogey.

Jeffrey Perry and Zach Mate each shot 81 during the second round. Perry's round consisted of a birdie, five bogeys and a pair of double bogeys. Mate had a birdie, eight bogeys and a double bogey.

Saint Mary's moved into the team lead with an impressive 2-under par total of 286 during the second round. The Gaels hold a 1-stroke lead over CSUN and lead Grand Canyon by three strokes. The individual lead is shared by GCU's Tommaso Zorzetto and CSUN's Felix Schrott who are both even.
