AZUSA, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field teams began the first of three days at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday at Azusa Pacific. The Hornets were represented by
Eliana Coburn in the heptathlon and
Tia Oliver in the steeplechase on the opening day.
Coburn is in third place following the first four events of the heptathlon. The junior began with a time of 14.50 in the 100-hurdles for the fastest time in Group D. Coburn's time was her fastest of the season in the event, topping her previous best of 14.70 which was set last weekend at the Sacramento State Invitational. She added a high jump of 5-02.24 and then set a PR in the shot put with a best of 39-06.00. That distance moved Coburn into the overall lead in her group through three events. Coburn wrapped up the first day of the heptathlon by running the 200 in 27.00. She will complete the heptathlon on Friday with the long jump, javelin and 800.
Oliver finished the steeplechase in 10:52.43 which was her fastest time of the season by nearly two seconds. Her time placed her 54th in the meet and remained seventh in the Big Sky this season.
Along with the completion of the heptathlon, Friday will see the Hornet women compete in the 5K and the 800. The final day of the meet will include one final section of the 5K as well as the men's and women's 1500.
