MATE TIED FOR FIFTH, MEN'S GOLF SIXTH AFTER FIRST DAY OF REDHAWKS INVITATIONAL

Tournament concludes with third round on Tuedaay from Chambers Bay

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — The Sacramento State men's golf team is in sixth place following the first two rounds of the SeattleU Redhawks Invitational at historic Chambers Bay GC on Monday. The Hornets were led by Zach Mate who shot 67-17-138 to tie for fifth place.

Mate was 4-under par in the first round. He started on the fourth hole but moved to 2-over following a double bogey on the par-4 sixth. Birdies on Nos. 7 and 8 returned him to even before a bogey on the par-3 ninth. He parred the first five holes on the back side of the course and then birdied Nos. 15-17 to get to 2-under. Following a par on No. 18, he eagled the par-5 first and closed the round with two pars. Mate parred eight of his first nine holes with the exception being a bogey on the par-4 11th. He rose to 2-over during the round after a bogey on the par-3 15th before birdies on Nos. 18 and 2 returned him to even. Mate is in a three-way tie for first place at 4-under par. The trio are all five strokes back of Oregon State's Jackson Lee who shot 65-68-133.

Jeffrey Perry is tied for 26th at 71-73-144. Perry was even durning the morning round with four birdies and four bogeys. He was 2-over through his first four holes but played the back nine at 3-under with birdies on Nos. 11, 16 and 19. After four pars, he closed the first round with a bogey on No. 5. In the second round, Perry had two birdies and four bogeys.

Zach Matzke shot 74-75-149 and is tied for 68th overall. Matzke had three birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey in the first round. He followed with four birdies, five bogeys and a triple bogey in the afternoon.

Luke Dugger contributed a round of 72 to count toward the team total in the first round. Dugger played the front side of the course at 1-under with birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 and a bogey on No. 9. He was 2-over on the back nine with a birdie and three bogeys.

Patrick Dumag rounded out the team total in the second round with a 74. Dumag had five birdies and seven bogeys in the round.

Oregon State leads the team standings by three strokes. The Beavers are 11-under par as a team and are followed by Idaho (8-under), SeattleU (2-under), Gonzaga (1-over) and George Mason (3-over) in the top five). The tournament will conclude with the final round on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
