FAIRFAX, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's golf team is in ninth place following the first two rounds of the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate on Monday. The Hornets shot 298-290-588 and were led by
Jennifer Koga in the first round and
Ella Kraft in the second.
The tournament is led by top-ranked Stanford and Washington who each totaled 134. The 14-team field featured 13 teams ranked in the top 100 of NCAA Div. I, including four in the top 25.
Jennifer Koga was even in the first round to lead the team. Koga began her round on the 13th hole with a par and moved to 1-under with a birdie on the par-3 14th. A bogey on No. 18 left her even where she reamined until a bogey on the par-3 fifth. Koga birdied No. 7 but followed with bogeys on Nos. 8 and 10 to stand at 2-over. She closed the round with birdies on the par-3 11th and par-4 12th.
Ashley Koga was two strokes back of her older sister in the first round. Koga had bogeys on three of her first six holes before playing her final 12 holes at 1-under. She parred Nos. 2-9, birdied the par-4 10th and parred Nos. 11-13.
Sneha Sharan shot 75 in the first round in her first action since winning the Causeway Invitational. Sharan parred her first eight holes before bogeys on Nos. 2 and 4 took her to 2-over. After four more pars, she birdied the par-5 ninth but immediately followed with a double bogey on No. 10.
Caitlin Maurice and
Ella Kraft shot 77 and 79, respectively, in the first round. Maurice was 6-over through nine holes but played her final nine at 1-under with eight pars and a birdie on the par-5 ninth. Kraft had a birdie, three bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey in her first round.
In the second round, Kraft paced the team with a 3-under par round of 69. The sophomore started with a birdie on the par-5 15th and then parred her next three holes. Birdies on Nos. 1 and 3 dropped her to 3-under where she remained until bogeys on Nos. 7 and 8. Kraft birdied the ninth, parred her next two holes, and then birdied the par-4 12th to get back to 3-under.
Jennifer Koga is tied for 12th for the highest position on the team after the first day. Kgan shot 71 in the second round with five birdies and four bogeys. The senior was never more than 1-over or 1-under during the round. She was even with two holes to play but was able to birdie the par-3 11th to get to 1-under. During the day, she had five birdies on par-3 holes.
Sharan shot 74 in the afternoon and is tied for 42nd overall. She was 1-over through her first seven holes before bogeys on Nos. 1-3 and another on the par-4 sixth took her to 5-over. After two pars, Sharan eagled the 464-yard, par-5 ninth to get back to 3-over and ended with a par on the next hole.
Caitlin Maurice shot 76 in the second round with one birdie and five bogeys.
Ashley Koga had a round of 77 with one birdie, two bogeys and a pair of double bogeys.
The tournament concludes with a single round on Tuesday.
