FRESNO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's golf team owned the lowest score in the second round of the Fresno State Classic when play was halted due to darkness on Monday at Copper River Country Club. The Hornets moved up 11 spots in the standings during the round and will begin play on Tuesday tied for fourth place.
Sacramento State endured a tough first round which saw the team finish at 12-over par and total 300. Koga and
Ella Kraft tied for the team lead with each shooting 74 to finish at 2-over par. Koga had one birdies and three bogeys during her round while Kraft had two birdies and four bogeys.
The Hornets also counted a pair of 76s from
Caitlin Maurice and
Florencia Dufey in the first round. Maurice had four birdies to go along with 14 pars. Dufey closed the morning round with two birdies and six bogeys.
Sacramento State made its move in the second round off its first few holes. Maurice eagled the 483-yard, par-5 12th hole to start her round and was 1-under at the midway point. Koga and Kraft were each 1-under through nine holes in the afternoon and
Sneha Sharan was even.
Each of the five Hornet golfers had between one and two holes remaining in the second round when play was stopped. Koga is 1-under par in the round and tied for 12th at 1-over par for the day. Sharan and Maurice are each even in the second round while Kraft is 2-over and Dufey is 3-over.
Colorado State is the only team of the 21 in the tournament under par during the day. The Rams are 1-under and hold a 6-stroke lead over Fresno State. The remainder of the top five is comprised of Cal Poly (7-over), Sacramento State, Washington State and Rutgers (all 13-over).
Leigha Devine of Rutgers is the low individual at 4-under par and is one of seven golfers in red numbers.
The teams will conclude the second round beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and then immediately begin the third round.
