SAN DIEGO — Jack Charlton completed his highest-scoring decathlon in his career and
Kaleena Narus won the 3K to highlight the Sacramento State track and field team's efforts on Friday at the Aztec Invitational.
A day after setting four career bests in the first five events on the decathlon on Thursday, Charlton added two more PRs on Friday as well as high for total points. Charlton ran 15.09 in the 110-hurdles to begin the action on Thursday. He followed with a discus throw of 89-feet before clearing a career-best 10-08.00 in the pole vault. After throwing 166-06 in the javelin, Charlton closed the decathlon with a PR of 5:16.07 in the 1500. His 6,164 points placed him fifth overall in the competition and fourth among collegiate athletes. Charlton's previous high was 5,668 points which came at the 2022 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships.
Eliana Coburn placed sixth overall and fifth among college competitors with 4,589 points in the heptathlon. Coburn long jumped 16-05.75 in the first event of the day. She added a javelin throw of 108-07 and ran the 800 in 2:39.01.
The distance races took place on Friday evening and began with the women's 5K where Tia Olliver ran 17:19.33 to set her career best and place fifth in the race.
Ashley Busienei led the team in the women's 1500 with a time of 4:35.43 and
Dakota Gibson added a PR of 4:52.64. The men's 1500 followed where
Brandon Moreno placed second overall after running 3:53.64. Freshman
Ryan Martin posted a time of 3:59.34 to set his PR.
The evening concluded with a dominant performance from the Hornet women in the 3K. Narus won the race in 10:01.16. Dani gee placed second with a career-best 10:09.65 while
Viviana Valenton was one position back in 10:13.66 to set her PR.
Kate Sanders (10:15.04) was fourth and
Meg Moyer (10:52.99) sixth in their first collegiate outdoor race at the distance.
The meet will continue on Saturday with the main program.
