WOMEN'S GOLF TIES FOR FOURTH IN LOADED FIELD AT HAWAII TOURNAMENT

Jennifer Koga and Ella Kraft each record top 10 finishes

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Jennifer Koga finished the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational with a 3-under par round of 69 to help the Sacramento State women's golf team tie for fourth place on Tuesday at Hokuala GC. The Hornets finished the three-round event with a total of 281-292-290-863 to end at 1-under par. That left the team trailing only #16 Arizona State, #30 North Carolina and #31 Washington in the 15-team field.

Koga sparked the Hornets to a quick start in the round, birdying her first two holes (Nos. 2 and 3). She played the next seven holes at 1-over with a bogey on No. 5 to go along with a bogey on No. 5. Koga started the back nine with a par and added birdies on the par-4 11th and 13th to move to 3-under. Her only other bogey on the round came on the par-4 15th but was followed two holes later with a birdie. Koga ended her round with two pars.

The Honolulu native tied for 13th overall at 72-73-69-214. She is now tied with Tess Blair for the most top 20 career finishes (24) in school history. Koga also became the school career leader with 37 rounds at or below par and extended her record with 12 career rounds in the 60s and 16 tournaments as Sacramento State's leading scorer.

Ashley Koga and Ella Kraft each shot 73 on Tuesday to rank second on the team. Koga started on the third hole with a par and added a birdie on the par-5 fourth. She was 1-over through seven holes following a stretch of bogey-birdie-double bogey on Nos. 6-8. From there, she parred her next four holes, birdied the par-4 13th and bogeyed No. 14 to stay at 1-over. The freshman was even through her final five holes with a birdie, three pars and a bogey.

Kraft had birdies on Nos. 2 and 3 before playing her final 15 holes at 3-over. During that stretch, she had 13 pars, a bogey and a double bogey. Kraft tied for 19th overall at 67-75-73-215 for her 11th top 20 finish in her two seasons.

Caitlin Maurice wrapped up the team score on Tuesday with a 75. Maurice had four birdies, three bogeys and a pair of double bogeys in her final round. She tied for 38th with rounds of 71-74-75-220.

Sneha Sharan, who led the team in the opening round, tied Maurice for 38th. Sharan had three birdies in the third round before finishing the tournament at 71-70-79-220.

Freshman Florencia Dufey competed as an individual and totaled 72-72-74-218 to tie for 26th place overall.

Arizona State's Ashley Menne edged Washington's Camille Boyd by one stroke to become the medalist. Menne had rounds of 69-64-69-202 to finish at 14-under par.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Fresno State Classic on Mar. 25-26 at San Joaquin Country Club.
