SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Hornet Invitational began on Friday with Sacramento State student-athletes competing in nine events. The meet will continue on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. with the women's javelin. The first running event starts at noon with the women's 4x100 relay.

The women's hammer throw was the first event on Friday where Sacramento State was led by Abby Meder who threw 153-02 to place 14th overall. Malik Shakur paced the Hornet men with a best of 164-02 to set his PR.

Sacramento State had two top-10 finishes in the women's steeplechase. Tia Oliver placed fifth in 10:54.38 while Viviana Valenton was two spots back with a time of 11.24.08.

The 200 featured over 300 men and women and had 34 heats during the night. Freshman Brei'ja Stredic ran a wind-aided 34.15 to finish in seventh pace to guide the women. Newcomer Malachi Cox had the fastest time for the Hornet men, running 21.74 to place 17th.

The night concluded with the 3K for both the men and women. Sophia Dudley ran 10:21.83 to pace the Sacramento State women. Kelly Galicia-Thomas had the fastest time for the Hornet men in 8:53.32.
