TRACK & FIELD BEGINS PAIR OF WEEKEND MEETS WITH THREE TOP 10S

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field teams had limited competitors in two meets on Friday but still managed three school top 10 marks. Zachary Winger and Breija Stredic cracked the top 10 list at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., while Dani Gee recorded her second top 10 of the season at the Husky Classic in Seattle.

Winger ran 21.77 in his first 200 of the season. That time places him fifth all-time in school history and crushed his previous best of 22.5 which was set last season. Jalen Adams ran a season-best 22.07 in the race and was just one-hundredth of a second off his PR. Kalil Powers completed the Hornet trio in the 200 with a career best of 22.84.

In the women's races at the meet, freshman Breija Stredic posted a time of 55.86 in the unseeded section of the 400. Stredic took over a second off her previous best of 56.90 and is now eighth all-time at Sacramento State.

The Hornets had three entries in the women's 200 who all set PRs. Zoe Ewell led the group in 24.96. Kassidy Schroth ran 25.55 and Ava Fitzgerald finished in 25.75.

Jessi Barry and Audrey McElmurry tied for the team lead in the women's long jump as each had a best of 17-07.50.

At the Husky Classic, Dani Gee completed the 5,000 meters in 17.11.74 which is the fourth fastest time in school history. The race was the first for Gee at the distance during her indoor career.

The Hornets also competed in the men's and women's weight throw. John Maka had a throw of 54-03 to lead the men and Abby Meder paced the women at 48-02.

Sacramento State will continue both meets on Saturday.
