GRANT WINS THE HIGH JUMP TO LEAD TRACK & FIELD IN FINAL DAY OF BIG SKY INDOORS

Hornet women finish fifth, men seventh in final indoor meet of the season

SPOKANE, Wash. — Miles Grant finished first in the high jump and the Sacramento State track and field team accounted for 16 scorers and six school top 10 marks during the final day of the Big Sky Indoor Championships at The Podium on Saturday.

Northern Arizona swept both team titles as the Lumberjack women totaled 204 points while the NAU men had 190 points. The Hornet women claimed fifth place and the men finished in seventh.

Grant became the first Hornet to win the high jump at the Big Sky Indoor Championships since Emilio Hernandez in 2010. Grant cleared 6-09.75 to match his career best which already is tied for fourth in school history. The junior finished an inch ahead of the rest of the field and took three attempts at 6-11.00 before ending the competition. Grant passed on the first two heights but needed no more than two jumps at his next four bars to secure the title.

Zachary Winger and Stephen Dahdouh each scored in the 60-hurdles for the Hornet men. Winger placed fifth in 8.07 seconds while Dahdouh was one spot back in 8.17. The pair combined for nine points in the team total.

Malachi Cox added three points with a sixth-place finish in the 400. Cox ran 48.03 which moved him into fifth place in school history. His time was .12 seconds faster than his previous best this season.

Cox, Dahdouh, Nathan Rider and Irven Hill combined to run the 4x400 relay in 3:20.28 to place seventh.

The men's team also picked up points from John Gibbs in the triple jump. Gibbs had a best of 46-08.25 on his fifth attempt.

The women started their morning with Ava Fitzgerald and Kameryn Brown each scoring in the 60-hurdles. Fitzgerald ran a career-best 8.49 seconds to place fourth in the meet and remain fifth in school history. Brown finished in seventh place with a PR of 8.74 seconds.

The team had three scorers in the 60-meter dash led by Jessi Barry who was third in 7.52 seconds. Barry's time ties their career best which ranks second in school history. Ewell, who set the school record last night with a time of 7.50, placed fifth on Saturday in 7.56 seconds. Kassidy Schroth completed the trio by running 7.65 seconds to finish in seventh place.

Mia Lawrence finished in eighth place in the 800 in 2:14.21 to complete the individual scorers in the running events.

The Hornets tallied 15 points in the women's triple jump with Alexia Croffet finishing third, R'kai Davis fourth and Jayla Flowers fifth. Croffet set her career best and moved into a tie for 10th place in school history with a jump of 40-03.25. Croffet's best mark came on her second jump of the day and was her season best by 17.5 inches.

The team wrapped up the meet by finishing fourth in the 4x400 relay. The team of Breija Stredic, Daysha Ford, Dominique Abbott and Emily Giddens ran 3:46.55 which moved them into sixth place in school history.

Sacramento State will begin the outdoor season in two weeks when the team will split its squad between the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton and the Aggie Open at UC Davis.
