COBURN, CHARLTON LEAD TRACK & FIELD AT RIVERFRONT MULTI ON THURSDAY

SPOKANE, Wash. — Eliana Coburn led the Sacramento State women in the pentathlon and Jack Charlton owns the best score for the Hornet in the heptathlon following the first day of the Riverfront Multi on Thursday at The Podium.

Coburn placed eighth in her first pentathlon of the year, scoring 3,621 point in the five events. She opened the day with a time of 8.96 in the 60-hurdles and followed by clearing 5-03.75 in the high jump to set season bests in both events. Coburn added a shot put of 37-08.75 before a long jump of 17-07.50 to add two more season highs on the day. Her final event was the 800 where she ran 2:30.88. Her point total placed her second among Big Sky Conference athletes in the pentathlon. Nicola Ader, who was competing unattached, won the pentathlon with 4,074 points. Oregon State's Anneke Moersdorf was the top collegiate finisher with 3,949 points.

Abby Sheets finished 15th in the pentathlon with 3,204 points. Sheets set a season best in the 60-hurdles by running 9.80 in the opening event. Her other marks were 5-01.25 in the jump, 38-00.00 in the shot put, 16-07.00 in the long jump and 2:43.41 in the 800.

Through the first four events of the heptathlon, Charlton is in sixth place with 2,812 points. That score leaves him 241 points off the lead of Montana State's Nicola Paletti heading into the final three events on Friday. Charlton set three career bests on Thursday with a time of 7.12 in the 60, clearing 5-11.50 in the high jump and a long jump of 21-02.50. His other mark during the day was a shot put of 41-02.25.

Joshua Braun joined Charlton in the heptathlon and started his day with a PR in the 60 of 7.27 seconds. Braun added a long jump of 20-01.50 and had a put of 31-10.00. He closed the day by clearing 5-05.75 in the high jump to set a PR. Braun's total of 2,392 points has him in 13th place.

The heptathlon resumes on Friday with the 60-hurdles at 11 a.m. Following the pole vault, the meet will heptathlon will conclude with the 1,000-meter. The main program of the Riverfront Invitational will also begin on Friday. Field events start with the women's weight throw at 12:30 p.m. and the first running event will be the women's 800 at 3 p.m.
