Kraft leads the team, tied for third, with 1-under par opening round

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Sacramento State women's golf team is tied for first place following the first round of the Evie Odom Invitational on Friday at Princess Anne CC. The Hornets finished 2-over par as a team and are tied with College of Charleston in the team standings.

Ella Kraft is tied for third overall and led the team with a 1-under par round of 69 to set her season low. Kraft was 3-over through her first two holes but bounced back with birdies on the Nos. 3 and 4. She was even at the midway point of her round following birdies on Nos. 7 and 9 and a bogey on No. 8. Kraft was 1-over following a bogey on the par-3 11th but rallied to birdie the par-3 17th and par-5 18th to get into red numbers.

Kraft is one shot off the lead which is shared by Charleston's Emma Schimpf and Notre Dame's Maddy Bante at 2-under. Kraft is one of two golfers at 1-under par while seven are even.

Sneha Sharan is one of the seven who are even and is tied for fifth place. Sharan was even through nine holes with a bogey on the par-4 third and a birdie on the par-4 fourth. She dropped to 1-under following a birdie on the par-5 10th but was 1-over after bogeys on Nos. 14 and 15. Sharan closed her round with a stretch of par-birdie-par over her final three holes.

Darla May Dela Torre is tied for 12th place after shooting 71. The freshman was even through nine holes with bogeys on Nos. 1 and 7 and birdies on Nos. 8 and 9. She rose to 2-over after bogeys on Nos. 11 and 13 but finished with birdies on Nos. 16 and 18 to bracket a bogey on No. 17.
