SEATTLE — The two-day UW Invitational began on Friday where the Sacramento State track and field team recorded three school top 10 marks and had eight top eight finishes. The meet will continue on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
Zachary Winger continued his ascent up the record board in the 60-hurdles. A week after moving into a tie for sixth place in school history, Winger jumped to fourth place with a time of 8.01 seconds in the finals to finish second overall. Winger ran 8.24 in the qualifying round to claim the final bid to the finals and then took six-hundredths of a second off his personal best. in the finals.
Malachi Cox ran his first 200 as a Hornet and finished in fifth place with a time of 22.26.
Nathan Rider joined him in the top eight with a season best of 22.33.
Brandon Moreno competed in an indoor meet for the first time in his Sacramento State career and ran 8:26.86 in the 3K. Moreno's time is the fourth best in school history and was the fastest by a Hornet since 2018.
In the men's field events,
Miles Grant posted a victory in the high jump in the final event of the night. Grant was the only athlete in the field to clear 6-08.75 and won the event by two inches. Grant entered the week as the leader in the Big Sky Conference after a clearance o 6-09.75 last week in Nebraska.
John Gibbs and
Joshua Braun placed fifth and eighth in the triple jump, respectively. Gibbs had a best of 46-11.75 while Braun traveled 43-10.50 to each set season bests.
Dani Gee moved into seventh place in school history in the 3K. Gee ran 9:59.08 to take nearly 20 seconds off her previous best in the event. She has the second fastest time by a Hornet in the event since 2016.
Tia Oliver also set a PR in the race, crossing in 10:17.16.
Izzi Leonard placed second in the women's high jump with a career-high tying clearance at 5-07.00. Leonard already occupied seventh place in school history in the indoor high jump.
The Hornets had three scorers in the women's triple jump.
Jayla Flowers finished in fifth place with a season best of 39-00.50.
Tamia Ramos and
R'kai Davis each recorded personal bests to place seventh and eighth, respectively, Ramos jumped 38-05.50 for a 19-inch improvement while Davis had a best of 37-06.75.
