POLE VAULT SUMMIT MARKS START OF 2024 INDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON

RENO, Nev. — Three Sacramento State student-athletes took part in the Pole Vault Summit on Friday at the Livestock Events Center in the first indoor competition for the Hornets this season.

John Gibbs and Andrew Lehner each competed in the Men's Open 2 division which began at 4.25 meters. Gibbs cleared the opening bar on his third attempt and then wasted no time to clear 4.45 meters on his next jump. After two misses at 4.65 meters, he was able to get over the bar on his third attempt. Gibbs ended his meet with three misses at 4.80. His effort placed him third out of 14 athletes in the division. Gibbs' effort was his second best of his indoor career and comes on the heels of him clearing 4.70m at last year's Big Sky Indoor Championships.

Lehner was unable to clear the bar on his three jumps at the opening height.

Leah Chavez competed for the first time since the 2022 Big Sky Outdoor Championships (608 days). Chavez had a successful attempt at 3.05m while competing in the Open Women's 2 division.

Sacramento State will have its first team indoor meet next weekend in Lincoln, Neb. The Hornets will compete in the Prairie Wolf Indoor on Friday and the Mark Colligan Memorial on Saturday.
