LATINCSICS FINISHES FIRST TO LEAD CROSS COUNTRY AT PACIFIC COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

Hornet women finish second, men third on Friday evening

LODI, Calif. — Molly Latincsics became the first Sacramento State woman to win a cross country race in over five years as she captured the title at the Pacific Collegiate Invitational at Micke Grove Park on Friday evening.

Latincsics completed the 6K course in 20:42.6 to win the event by four seconds over Saint Mary's Rayna Stanziano. Latincsics' performance made her the first Hornet to win a cross country race since Amy Quinones took the top spot at the Fresno XC Invitational on Sept. 1, 2018.  The last Sacramento State woman to win a 6K race was Chloe Berlioux at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 17, 2015.

The Hornets had three women place among the top eight in the race and finished in second place as a team. Dani Gee was fifth overall in 21:22.8 and Kaleena Narus ran 21:46.8 to place eighth. The Hornets finished with 52 total points and only trailed Saint Mary's which scored 22. UC Santa Cruz (84), Fresno State (85) and Fresno Pacific (130) completed the top five.

Tia Oliver (13th, 22:15.4) and Kate Sanders (25th, 22:37.9) secured the final two times toward the team total.

The first race of the meet was the men's 8K where Aiden Maddison led the Hornets. Maddison posted Sacramento State's fastest time for the second time in three meets this season. He ran 25:01.2 to place eighth overall but had the third fastest time among the team entries. Four of the top five finishers in the men's race were competing unattached with the only exception being Milo Skapinsky of Stanford who was fourth.

Brandon Moreno ranked second on the team and was 19th overall in 25:38.4. Ryan Martin, who led the Hornets in last week's meet, finished 34th with a time of 26:10.9. The final team score came from Paden Collard who ran 26:18.2 to place 42nd.

Sacramento State will have a couple of weeks between competition as it will close the regular season at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 14 in Sunnyvale, Calif. The team will then run at the Big Sky Championships in Missoula, Mont., on Oct. 28 before hosting the NCAA West Regional on Friday, Nov. 10.
