UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — The Sacramento State women's golf team is in sixth place following the first two rounds of the PNW Leadership and Golf Invitational on Monday at Chambers Bay Golf Course. The Hornets had back-to-back rounds of 295 and were led by sophomore
Ella Kraft who is in sixth place.
USC, which is the top ranked team in the field, holds a 7-stroke lead over Minnesota for the top spot. The Trojans are 15-under par as a team. Sacramento State is 14-over as a team heading into the final round on Tuesday.
Kraft shot 71-70-140 during the opening day. She is just four strokes back of Minnesota's Hailey Loh for the lead and only one stroke out of second place. Kraft was 1-over through her first six holes but then birdied the par-4 14th, par-3 15th and par-4 18th to get to 2-under. A double bogey on the first hole returned her to even and she ended the round by playing her final six holes at 1-under with a birdie on the par-5 fourth and five pars. Kraft began the second round with an eagle on the par-5 eighth and later followed with birdies on Nos. 10-12 to get to 5-under for the round. She played her remaining 13 holes at 3-over.
Sneha Sharan is tied for 35th after rounds of 74-75-149. Sharan was 3-over through her first five holes but responded by playing the next 13 holes at 1-under with four birdies and three bogeys. Her second round also started slowly with three bogeys over six holes. Sharan steadied her round with a birdie on the par-4 13th and parred 10 of her last 11 holes with the exception on a bogey on No. 3.
Caitlin Maurice and
Ashley Koga each totaled 150 and are tied for 41st place. Maurice had a birdie, two bogeys and a triple bogey in the first round and followed with a birdie and triple bogey in the afternoon. Koga, who was playing as an individual, shot 79 in the opening round with two birdies, seven bogeys and a double bogey. She shot 71 in the second round behind four birdies and three bogeys.
