SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field team revealed a 23-member signing class for the upcoming academic year, it was announced today. The class is comprised of 12 men and 13 women. Between the two teams the Hornets will bring in eight sprinter/hurdlers, eight distance runners, four throwers and three jumpers.
"Our staff did an amazing job of identifying our needs as a program," Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Kenny McDaniel said. "I like that we were able to bring in some quality kids with race experience in multiple events."
Men
Xavier Bruce (Sprints, Rocklin, Calif./Whitney HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Whitney HS in Rocklin, Calif.
- Qualified for the CIF State Championships in the 100 as a senior.
- Finished first in the event at the Sierra Foothill League Championships, second at the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. I Championships and third at the masters meet.
- Ran 10.54 in the opening round of the masters meet for his PR.
- Was the SFL champion in the 200, placed second at the section Div. I meet and eighth at the masters meet.
- Had a best of 21.91 in the Div. I finals to set his PR.
- Anchored the 4x100 relay team which won the league crown and finished eighth at the masters meet.
- As a junior, he was second in the SFL in the 100 and fifth in the 200.
Issac Chavez (Distance, Madera, Calif./Madera South HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Madera South HS.
- Ran cross country and track for the Stallions.
- Qualified for the California State Championships three times.
- Was the County/Metro Athletic Conference cross country champion as a freshman.
- Placed fifth at the CMAC meet in 2021 and was seventh at the North Yosemite League Championships as a senior.
- Fastest 5K time was 15:58.0 at the Central Section Championships in 2021.
- In track, he was the NYL champion in the 400 and 800 and ran as a senior in 2022.
- Ran the opening leg of the 4x400 team which the league title that same season.
- Placed sixth at the Central Section Championships in the 800.
- Fastest 800 came at the Azusa Distance Meet of Champions in 2022 where he ran 1:55.62.
Malachi Cox (Sprints, Livingston, Calif./Livingston HS/Modesto JC)
- Competed at Modesto JC for two seasons.
- Finished sixth at the 2023 CCCAA State Championships in the 400.
- Ran 48.59 to win the Jack Albiani Invitational and set his career best in the event.
- Was the leadoff leg for the 4x400 relay team which finished sixth at the CCCAA State Championships in 2023.
- Graduated from Livingston HS in 2021.
- Was the Central California Conference champion in the 400 as a senior.
- Fastest times were 22.68 in the 200 and 50.88 in the 400.
Frankie Cruz (Jumps, Brentwood, Calif./Liberty HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Liberty HS in Brentwood, Calif.
- Ranked sixth in the state in the triple jump as a senior.
- Was the North Coast Section Champion in the triple jump following a PR of 47-02.75.
- Qualified for the CIF State Championships in the event.
- Best long jump was 22-06.25.
- Also ran the 100, 200, 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Stephen Dahdouh (Sprints/Hurdles, Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Pleasant Grove HS in Elk Grove, Calif.
- Finished third at the CIF State Championships in the 110-hurdles as a senior.
- Was also the Delta League, Sac-Joaquin Section Div. I and Sac-Joaquin Section Masters champion in the event.
- Ran 13.94 at the masters meet to set his career best.
- Finished first at the Golden West Invitational and was 10th at the Nike Outdoor Nationals.
- Placed first in the 300H at the Delta League Championships and Golden West Invitational, second at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters and 12th at the California State Championships.
- Fastest time was 38.39 at the state meet.
- Was third at the Stanford Invitational and fourth at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in the 400-hurdles.
- Also ran the 100, 200 and 4x100 and 4x400 relays during the year.
- Was the second leg of the 4x100 team which won the Delta League title.
Dion Dupree (Distance, Gilroy, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS/Santa Clara)
- Attended Santa Clara for four years.
- Primarily ran the 800 and 1500 for the Broncos while also competing in cross country.
- Set PRs in both events as a senior, running the 800 in 1:54.09 at the Mark Conover Classic and the 1500 in 3:59.99 at the Fresno State Invite.
- Fastest 8K cross country time was 26:09.5 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational.
- A 2019 graduate of Archbishop Mitty HS in San Jose, Calif.
- Finished second in the 800 at the WCAL Championships as a sophomore and was fourth as a junior and senior.
- Set his PR in the 800 in 1:55.98 at the Central Coast Section semifinals.
Leland Godfrey (Throws, Temecula, Calif./Chaparral HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Chaparral HS in Temecula, Calif.
- Finished ninth in the shot put at the CIF State Championships.
- Had a PR of 56-04.75 in the state finals.
- Was the Southwestern League champion, placed third at the Southern Section Div. I meet and sixth at the Southern Section masters meet.
- Finished first in eight meets during the season.
- Had a discus throw of 158-02 to finish second at the Inland Empire Championships.
Ryan Martin (Distance, West Sacramento, Calif./River City HS)
- A 2023 graduate of River City HS in West Sacramento, Calif.
- Qualified for the CIF State Championships in the 1600.
- Finished first in the 1600 at the Metro League Championships and the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II finals and was third at the Sac-Joaquin Section masters meet.
- Also won the Metro League title in the 800, was second at the section Div. II meet and seventh at the masters meet.
- Was second at the Metro League Championships in the 3200.
- Best times were 1:55.60 in the 800, 4:15.73 in the 1600 and 9:47.82 in the 3200.
- In cross country, he was the Metro League champion, finished ninth at the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships and qualified for the CIF State Championships.
- Fastest 5K time was 15:47.17 at the state meet.
Eric Nakagawa (Throws, Fresno Calif./Edison HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Edison HS in Fresno, Calif.
- Finished first in the shot put and discus at the County/Metro Athletic Conference Championships as a senior.
- Placed seventh in the discus and 10th in the shot put at the Central Section Championships.
- Threw 163-06 in the discus at section meet for his PR.
- Top shot put was 53-11.50 at the CMAC Championships.
- Earned USATF All America honors after placing 10th in the shot put at the 2022 Junior Olympics.
Kalil Powers (Sprints, Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Pleasant Grove HS in Elk Grove, Calif.
- Finished fifth in the 100 at the Sac-Joaquin Section masters meet.
- Was second in the Delta League in the 100 and fifth in the 200.
- Fastest times were 10.72 in the 100 and 22.65 in the 200.
- Anchored the 4x100 relay team which won the Delta League title and the Golden West Invitational.
- Also ran on the school's 4x400 relay.
Kyle Smith (Throws, Stockton, Calif./Weston Ranch HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Weston Ranch HS in Stockton, Calif.
- Was the San Joaquin Athletic Association champion in the discus.
- Placed second at the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II finals behind a PR of 156-10.
- Finished first or second in eight of 11 meets during his senior season.
Jaden Washington (Throws, Oxnard, Calif./Rio Mesa HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Rio Mesa HS in Oxnard, Calif.
- Placed second in the discus at the Channel League finals and was sixth in the shot put.
- Finished fifth in the discus at the Southern Section Div. I Finals.
- Best marks were 160-02.50 in the discus and 46-00.00 in the shot put.
Women
Dominique Abbott (Sprints, Riverside, Calif./J.W. North HS)
- A 2023 graduate of John. W. North HS in Riverside, Calif.
- Finished eighth at the California state meet in the 800 as a senior.
- Ran 2:10.25 during the finals to set her PR.
- Was second in the event at the IVY League championships and was fifth at the Southern Section master's meet.
- Ran the second leg of the school's 4x400 relay team which finished third at the state championships.
- Fastest 1600 was 5:26.84.
Theone Divinagracia (Distance, Elk Grove, Calif./Franklin HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Franklin HS in Elk Grove, Calif.
- Qualified for the California State Championships in the 800 as a senior where she placed 16th behind a PR of 2:14.91.
- Finished third at the Sac-Joaquin Section master's and was the Delta League champion that same season.
- Was a member of the 4x400 relay team which won the Delta League crown during her senior season.
- Ran the 100 and 200 as a junior.
Lilly Escorcia (Distance, Elk Grove, Calif./Elk Grove HS)
- Graduated from Elk Groce HS in 2023.
- Was the Sac-Joaquin Section champion in the 800 as a senior.
- Advanced to the CIF State Championships in the event.
- Finished second at the Delta League finals and the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. I meet.
- Set her PR of 2:15.15 at the section Div. I meet.
- Also competed in the 100, 200 and 400 during her career and ran cross country.
Zoe Ewell (Sprints, Phoenix, Ariz./Madison Highland Prep/Riverside JC)
- Spent two years at Riverside JC.
- Placed sixth at the CCCAA State Championships in the 100 and 200 in 2023.
- Ran 11.96 in the 100 at the Mt. SAC Relays for her fastest 100 during the year.
- Best 200 was 25.09 at the Aztec Invitational.
- Was the second leg of the 4x400 relay team which finished fifth at the CCCAA Championships.
- As a freshman, she was the state champion in the 100 in 11.79 seconds.
- A 2020 graduate of Madison Highland Prep in Phoenix, Ariz.
- Placed second at the Arizona state meet in the 100 and 200.
- Was the state champion in the high jump and anchored the 4x400 relay which finished fourth.
Lexie Gomez (Distance, Modesto, Calif./Gregori HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Gregori HS in Modesto, Calif.
- Competed in both cross country and track and field for the Jaguars.
- Was the Central California Athletic League champion in the 1600 as a junior and placed second as a senior.
- Fastest 1600 time was 5:20.96.
- Placed third in the 3200 at the CCAL Championships as a junior.
- Finished among the top 10 in every league cross country meet during her career.
Chandler Miller (Jumps, Phoenix, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Conner HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Sandra Day O'Conner HS in Phoenix, Ariz.
- Qualified for the Arizona State Championships in the high jump as a sophomore, junior and senior.
- Cleared 5-05.00 as a junior for her PR.
- As a senior, she finished second at the district championship in the high jump and was fourth in the triple jump and 300-hurdles.
- Was coached by former Sacramento State decathlete Will Wagner IV.
Meg Moyer (Distance, Flagstaff, Ariz./Northland Preparatory Academy)
- A 2023 graduate of Northland Preparatory Academy in Flagstaff, Ariz.
- Was a two-time all-state and three-time all-region selection in cross country.
- Also ran track all four years and played basketball for two seasons.
- Finished 10th at the Arizona State Cross Country Championships as a junior and was 14th as a sophomore.
- Fastest 5K time was 20:50.3 at the Desert Twilight XC Festival during the 2021 season.
- As a junior, she was 10th in the state in the 3200 and 16th in the 1600.
- Sets PR in both events that season with times of 5:41.73 and 12:10.48.
- Ran 18:35.51 in the 5K at the Texas Distance Festival.
Kate Sanders (Distance, Maple Valley, Wash./Tahoma HS)
- A 2023 graduate of Tahoma HS in Maple Valley, Wash.
- Ran cross country and track for the Bears.
- Was the North Puget Sound League champion in the 3200 and placed second in the 1600 as a senior.
- Ran the leadoff leg on the 4x400 relay team which finished first at the league meet.
- Finished in seventh place at the Washington State Championships in the 3200 that same season.
- Also qualified for the state meet in the 3200 as a junior.
- Fastest times were 5:03.35 in the 1600 and 11:01.32 in the 3200.
- Was a three-time state meet qualifier in cross country.
- Team won the state championship during her junior season.
- Ran 18:15.1 in a 5K as a sophomore for her fastest time.
Brei'ja Stredic (Sprints, Riverside, Calif./J.W. North HS)
- Â A 2023 graduate of J.W. North HS in Riverside, Calif.
- Was the IVY League champion in the 100 and 300-hurdles as a senior.
- Placed second in both events at the Southern Section Div. II finals.
- Ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400 relay team which placed third at the CIF State Championships.
- Fastest times were 12.00 in the 100, 25.52 in the 200, 1:00.19 in the 400 and 44.09 in the 300H.
Mara Vonnahme (Jumps, Muenchen, Germany)
- Finished sixth at the 2022 German U18 Championships in the long jump.
- Set her PR of 19-00.75 (5.81m) at Germeringer Leichtathletik.
- Jumped over 5.70m in six meets.
- Also competed in the 100-hurdles where she has a best of 14.78.
Rionna Wallace (Sprints/Jumps, Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood HS/CSUN/Cerritos JC)
- Competed for Cerritos JC during the 2023 season.
- Finished second at the CCCAA State Championships in the 100 after running 11.73.
- Was the South Coast Conference champion behind a PR of 11.68.
- Also placed third in the 200 at the league meet in 24.72 to set her career best.
- Anchored the team's 4x100 relay which finished first at the state championships.
- Finished fifth at the state meet in the long jump with a PR of 18-06.75.
- Began her collegiate career at CSUN in 2022.
- Ran the 200 and 400 and also long jumped for the Matadors.
- Graduated from Lakewood HS in 2020.
- High school bests were 12.69 in the 100, 26.10 in the 200 and 17-06.00 in the long jump.
