TRACK & FIELD SETS TWO MORE SCHOOL TOP 10S AS PART OF BIG DAY AT CAL

BERKELEY, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's track and field teams combined to record a pair of school top 10 marks, set or tied 21 personal bests and had 19 top five finishes on Saturday at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Cal.

WOMEN'S TRACK NOTES
  • Viviana Valenton finished first in the steeplechase and moved into ninth place in school history with a time of 11:05.31. That mark easily surpassed her previous best of 11:14.22.
  • Sacramento State had five athletes set PRs in the 1500. The group was led by freshman Molly Latincsics who ran 4:37.36 to place fifth. Fellow freshman Sophia Dudley was 10th in 4:42.43. The other PRs came from Tia Oliver (4:48.19), Hailey Rutter (4:51.06) and Katrina Kohlmeyer (4:58.66).
  • Sarah Collier placed fifth in the 800 in 2:14.41.
  • Daysha Ford was fifth in the 200 in 24.64. Ford's time is the fastest on the team this year and places her sixth in the Big Sky this season.
MEN'S TRACK NOTES
  • Blaize Holland was second in the 200 in a season best 21.28. That time is the fastest on the team this season and ranks third in the Big Sky this year.
  • Ruben Garcia placed fifth int he 800 with a PR of 1:55.46 which was over two seconds better than his previous best.
  • Zachary Winger ran the 400-hurdles for the first time in his collegiate career and finished seventh in 57.22. Winger is now eighth in the Big Sky this season.

WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jayla Flowers was the champion in the triple jump with a career best of 39-10.00. Flowers is now second in the Big Sky and less than an inch behind the leader.
  • Alexia Croffet was third at the meet behind a season best of 39-02.25 which also places her third in the conference.
  • Freshman Hope Gordon led three Hornets in the top four of the shot put. Gordon was second with a best of 42-00.75. Abby Meder placed third at 41-08.75 and Breanna Espinoza was fourth at 41-03.25.
  • Espinoza and Meder also placed among the top five int he discus. Espinoza had a throw of 143-09 to finish third. Meder was fifth at 141-07.

MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • John Gibbs finished first in the triple jump and moved into 10th place in school history with a best of 48-07.50. Gibbs is now fourth in the Big Sky this season.
  • Gibbs also matched his career best in the pole vault of 15-03.75 to place fifth. Andrew Lehner was one spot back with a PR of 14-10.00.
  • Miles Grant tied for second in the high jump with a clearance at 6-08.75.
  • Mason Mitchell was third in the long jump at 23-06.00 which places him sixth in the long jump. Gibbs was fourth at 22-03.75.
  • John Maka set a season best in the discus with a throw of 162-02 to place sixth.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Mt. SAC Relays on Apr. 12-15.
