WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS IN ROAD TRIP OPENER AT IDAHO STATE

Box Score POCATELLO, Idaho -- The Sacramento State women's tennis team rallied back from an early deficit to tie the match at three-all in singles, but host Idaho State was able to hold off the charging Hornets, winning the final match of the day in straight sets for a 4-3 victory on Friday afternoon.

Sacramento State's record evened up at 8-8 overall and 4-2 in Big Sky Conference play, snapping a two-match winning streak. The Bengals improved to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in league with the win.

After Idaho State swept the three doubles contests, the Hornets began to chip away at the Bengals' lead. Weronika Ejsmont and Tsveti Yotova won back-to-back matches in straight sets to tie the contest then, with their backs against the wall following a win at No. 5 by ISU, junior Mayya Gorbunova outlasted Hana Cho at the top spot in the lineup for a, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5), victory to send it to the final contest of the day.

Sacramento State's rally, however, ended there as the Bengals' Stefanya Shalakhova took down the Hornets' Grace McSkimming, 6-3, 6-4, to clinch the win.

Ejsmont's singles victory was her third straight and improved her to 3-1 at the No. 3 spot this season, while Yotova improved to 3-1 at the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Gorbunova's victory improved the junior to a team-best 13-3 overall on the season -- all of those wins at the No. 1 spot.

Sacramento State concludes its road trip against another Big Sky opponent at Weber State on Sunday (April 9) at 10 a.m.
