FULLERTON, Calif. -- Playing only their second match in the span of three weeks, the Sacramento State women's tennis team opened its two-match Southern California road trip with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of host Cal State Fullerton on Thursday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Courts in Orange County.

The defeat was the second straight for the Hornets, who fell to 6-6 overall on the season heading into a Sunday contest at CSUN in Northridge, Calif., at 11 a.m. The Titans improved to 9-5 overall with the win.

Fullerton opened by taking wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots for a 1-0 lead in the match overall, then swept three singles matches in straight sets, winning at No. 5, No. 6, and No. 1, to clinch the victory. The other three singles contests went unfinished.

Of those three, Sacramento State led in two of them as Maddy Ferreros was up 2-1 in the third after winning the first set, 7-5, against Natalie Duffy, and Tsveti Yotova was up 4-1 in the third in her match against Milena Gevorgyan after tying up the match with a 6-3 win in the second set.

In the remaining match, Weronika Ejsmont bounced back from an opening set loss with a 6-1 win in the second against Diana Yanotovskaya and the two were tied 3-3 in the third before the overall dual went final.
