Casey Leebrick leads team in the final round and ties for 19th overall

LIHUE, Hawaii — The Sacramento State men's golf team finished 18th at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Friday at the Ocean Course at Hokuala. The three-day event was shortened to two days due to expected weather.

Casey Leebrick had the top finish on the team, tying for 19th place with a total of 67-61-70-208. Leebrick was 2-under during the final round which was the best among Sacramento State golfers. He alternated bogeys and birdies over his first four holes and then dripped to 2-under with birdies on the par-5 second and fourth holes. Following a bogey on the fifth hole, he birdied the par-5 sixth. He played his final eight holes at even par with a double-bogey on the par-3 eighth and birdies on Nos. 10 and 12.

Riley Bell tied for 58th place with rounds of 72-69-74-215. His third round began with three pars before a bogey on No. 1 took him to 1-over. However, Bell birdied three of the next five holes to get to 2-under. He jumped to 3-over with three bogeys and a double bogey over a six-hole stretch but rebounded with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12 and 13. Bell closed the tournament with a bogey on No. 14 and a par on No. 15.

Jeffrey Perry shot 75 in the final round and ended tied for 84th. Perry had three birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys during the final round.

The Hornets also received scores of 76 from Zach Mate and 77 from Coleman Dupre. Mate had one birdie and five bogeys in his final round and placed 123rd. Dupre had two birdies, two bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey on Friday. He tied for 103rd in the tournament.

BYU held on to its first-day lead to set the tournament record and win by 18 strokes. The top five was also comprised of No. 19 Arizona, No. 9 Texas A&M, Cal and No. 20 San Diego State.

The Hornets will next compete at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Mar. 1-3 in Palm Desert, Calif.
