MEN'S GOLF MOVES UP FOUR SPOTS IN STANDINGS DURING SECOND ROUND OF EL MACERO CLASSIC

Thomas posts 1-under par round in wild weather conditions

EL MACERO, Calif. — Max Thomas was even with one hole to play when play was stopped to lead Sacramento State during the second round of the El Macero Classic on Saturday. Thomas sparked the Hornets to a six-stroke improvement and helped the team move into a tie for 15th place.
 
Thomas started his round on the 10th hole with a bogey but made the turn at 2-under with birdies on the 12th, 15th and 18th. He had bogeys on Nos. 1 and 3 with a birdie on the par-5 second in between to stand at 1-under. He then cared five consecutive pars before play was stopped with him on the ninth green. Thomas is tied for ninth place in the standings at even.
 
Zach Mate and Jai Bahl were each two over during the round. Mate had three birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey. Bahl had five birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey. The pair are tied for 66th overall with identical 36-hole totals of 78-74-152.
 
Gabriel Smith provided a 78 for the final team score. Smith had a birdie, five bogeys and a double bogey.
 
Pacific maintained its lead in the team total at 2-under par. The Tigers will take a four-stroke advantage of Nevada and California Baptist into the final round.
 
UC Davis' Lequan Wang shot 67 during the second round to move into the individual lead. Pacific's Felix Bouchard is second at 4-under while six others are under par.
 
Action on Sunday will begin with the final hole of the second round being completed and then the third round starting at 8 a.m. The Hornets will tee off beginning at 9:06 a.m. and continuing through 9:50 a.m.
