CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Sacramento State men's golf team was 3-over par as a team during the first round of the NCAA Corvallis Regional on Monday at Trysting Tree GC. The Hornets are tied for 12^th place with Notre Dame.
 
Jai Bahl led the team with a 1-under par round of 70. Bahl, who tied for first place at the Big Sky Championship, continued his hot play and is tied for 22^nd. The junior parred the first seven holes and made the turn even after a bogey on the par-4 eighth and a birdie on the par-4 ninth. He started the back nine with a bogey and birdie on the first two holes and remained even until a birdie on the par-5 16^th.
 
Zach Mate is one stroke back of Bahl and is tied for 33^rd with an even-par 71. Mate started play with eight pars but then bogeyed Nos. 9 and 10. His first birdie came on the par-4 11^th to take him back to 1-over but was later followed by a bogey on the par-5 14^th. Mate posted birdies on the par-5 16^th and par-3 17^th to return to even.
 
Max Thomas and Zach Matzke each shot 73 to complete the team total. Thomas was even on the front side of the course with a birdie on the par-5 fifth and a bogey on the par-4 seventh. His back nine was made up of seven pars and two bogeys.
 
Matzke was 2-over on the front nine with bogeys on Nos. 2 and 8 to go along with seven pars. He started the back side with a bogey on No. 10 before adding birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 and a bogey on No. 17. The pair are tied for 60^th place.
 
Purdue claimed a three-shot lead after the first round. The Boilermakers, which are ranked 43^rd nationally, had three golfers in the top 10 during the day. The individual lead is held by Washington's Emil Borrestuen Herstad who shot 66 while competing as an individual.
 
 The Hornets will be paired with No. 7 Texas Tech and UCLA during the second round off the 10^th tee. The first group goes off at 8:55 a.m. and continues every 11 minutes.
