GAME PREVIEW
• Sacramento State (12-15, 5-9) will play its final home game of the season on Saturday vs. Idaho State (9-18, 6-8). Tip at the Nest is set for 4 p.m.
• Saturday is Seniors Night, and five Hornets -
Zach Chappell,
Callum McRae,
Hunter Marks,
Xavier Ford and
Rick Barros III - will be honored for their contributions to the program.
• The Hornets will look to improve upon their 8-4 home record. After starting the season 8-0 at home, the Hornets have dropped four straight in the Nest.
• Sacramento State is seeking its first win since a 67-48 win against Montana on Jan. 26.
• Since that time, the Hornets have dropped six straight. That includes a 52-49 loss to Weber State on Thursday in which a potential game-tying 3-pointer missed at the buzzer.
• With just four games left in the regular season, Sacramento State currently sits in seventh place in the Big Sky standings.
• The top six teams at the end of the regular season receive a first round bye into the Big Sky Tournament, and the Hornets sit just one game out of the fifth spot. The Big Sky Tournament takes place in Boise on March 4-8.
• Essentially, there are five teams battling for the fifth and sixth seeds into the Big Sky Tournament - Portland State (6-8) and Idaho State (6-8) are tied for fifth; Sacramento State (5-9) is seventh, Northern Colorado (5-10) is eighth, and Idaho (4-10) is ninth.
• The Hornets' 12 overall victories have surpassed their win total from a season ago when the team finished 11-18.
• The Hornets are one win shy of matching their Big Sky win total from last year (6-14).
• Nine of the Hornets' 14 Big Sky games had been decided by eight points or less.
• Idaho State has dropped three straight games (all by single digits), including Thursday night's 79-70 road loss at Portland State. The Bengals are 4-10 on the road, but have won two of their last three roadies against Big Sky opposition.
• In the teams' earlier meeting in Pocatello on Jan. 19, Idaho State won, 65-61. The Hornets nearly overcame a 26-point second half deficit. In fact, they finished the final seven minutes on a 21-5 run. The Hornets would get as close 63-61, in the final 10 seconds.
• Sacramento State is 26-33 against Idaho State in a series littered with close games. Each of the last six games between the teams have been decided by five points or less.
• The Hornets are 13-12 when playing Idaho State at home.
• One area the Hornets will look to exploit is the glass. The Hornets are first in the Big Sky at +6.3 rebounding margin per game in league play, while Idaho State is seventh at -1.0.
