ASHLEY KOGA POSTS LOW SCORE FOR WOMEN'S GOLF IN FIRST ROUND OF EVIE ODOM

Hornets tied for eighth place after the first of three rounds

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Freshman Ashley Koga shot a 1-over round round of 71 to record the lowest score by a Sacramento State golfer during the first round of the Evie Odom Invitational on Friday at the Princess Anne Country Club.

The Hornets are tied for eighth place after the first round at 11-over. UCF holds a 10-stroke lead over the rest of the field and were the only team under par during the round at 7-under. Kent State is second at 3-over and is followed in the top five by Chattanooga (5-over), Indiana (7-over) and Missouri (8-over).

Unfortunately for Sacramento State, it was unable to count Koga's score toward the team total as she is competing as an individual in the tournament. The freshman opened her round with a bogey on the 10th hole and remained at 1-over through the back nine as she alternated bogeys and birdies over the final four holes. She was even on the front side of the course with a bogey on the par-4 fifth and a birdie on the par-5 eighth. Overall, she is tied for 21st and is just four strokes off the lead.

Sneha Sharan had the lowest score among the five players in the lineup with a 72. Sharan was 4-over on the back nine with a birdie, three bogeys and a double bogey. She crushed the front side of the course, leading the team with three birdies and had just one bogey to play at 2-under. Her total of 72 ties her for 29th.

Ella Kraft, Jennifer Koga and Florencia Dufey each shot 73 to finish at 3-over and are tied for 36th. Kraft was even through her first nine holes with a bogey on No. 14 and a birdie on the following hole. She finished with three bogeys on the front side of the course.

Jennifer Koga had an adventurous first nine holes with five birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey with just one par. That stretch left her at 1-under at the turn before a bogey on No. 1 returned her to even. She parred seven of her final eight holes with the exception being a triple bogey on the par-5 sixth.

Dufey was even on the back nine with a birdie on the par-3 11th and a bogey on the par-5 18th. She stayed even through the fourth hole but bogeyed three of the final five holes.

Caitlin Maurice completed the lineup with a 77.
