WOMEN'S GOLF IN FIFTH PLACE AT RAINBOW WAHINE INVITATIONAL

Hornets led by Caitlin Maurice in the second round; Ella Kraft tied for fourth place

KAPOLEI, Hawaii — Caitlin Maurice shot a 1-under par round of 71 and Ella Kraft is tied for fourth place after the second round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Tuesday.

Maurice moved herself into a tie for 29th place with her lowest score of the fall. The junior got off to a fantastic start as she had three birdies over her first seven holes to stand at 3-under. She then parred her next seven holes before her first bogey of the day came on the par-4 18th. Maurice responded with a birdie on the par-5 first hole before ending her round with bogeys on Nos. 1 and 2.

Kraft followed her opening round 69 with a 74. On Tuesday, she started with a par on the first hole before back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 2 and 3. After three pars, she birdied the par-5 seventh but made the turn at 3-over following bogeys on Nos. 8 and 9. Kraft was 1-under on the back nine beginning with four pars. She birdied the par-5 14th, parred the next two holes and finished with bogey-par on her final two holes.

Her two round total of 69-74-143 places Kraft in a seven-way tie for fourth place. That group is four strokes behind the lead of Baylor's Rosie Belsham and just two strokes out of second place.

Sneha Sharan matched Kraft's score in the second round and is tied for 25th overall. Sharan was 2-over on the front nine with seven pars and a pair of bogeys. She played her final nine holes even with a bogey on the par-4 13th and a birdie on the par-5 17th.

Jennifer Koga added a round of 76 toward the team total and is tied for 45th place. Koga began her round on the second hole and was 1-over through nine holes with a bogey on the par-4 fourth to go along with eight pars. Three straight bogeys on Nos. 11-13 moved her to 4-over where she finished after alternating birdies and bogeys on Nos. 15-18.

Sacramento State totaled 295 for the second consecutive round and is in fifth place. Baylor has opened an 11-stroke advantage and is the only team below par at 7-under. New Mexico State is second at 4-over while UC Davis (12-over), Cal State Fullerton (13-over) and the Hornets are all within two strokes.

The Hornets will play the third round on Wednesday with Gonzaga, Hawaii and Nevada. The teams will start on holes 4-7 with a shotgun start at 12 p.m. PT.
