KAPOLEI, Hawaii — Ella Kraft led the Sacramento State women's golf team with a 3-under par round of 69 during the first round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Monday at Kapolei Golf Course. As a team, the Hornets shot 7-over par and are in fourth place out of 16 teams.
Kraft started the day with a birdie on the par-5 14th. The sophomore added a birdies in the par-5 17th and par-4 second to get to 3-under. Kraft parred her next six holes before her lone bogey of the day came on the par-4 ninth. That was immediately followed by a birdie on the par-4 10th and three more pars.
Kraft is tied for second place overall with Rosie Belsham of Baylor. The pair are two strokes off the lead held by New Mexico State's Angela Garvin.
Sneha Sharan is tied for 23rd overall after shooting 74 to stand at 2-over par. Sharan also started on the 14th hole and parred her first eight holes of the day. She birdied the par-4 fourth to get to 1-under but followed with bogeys on the next four holes. Sharan birdied the par-4 10th hole and closed with three pars.
Jennifer and
Ashley Koga each shot 76 to complete the team total. Jennifer's rounds was comprised of 14 pars and four bogeys. Ashley had a birdie, three bogeys and a double bogey.
The team has its full roster competing at the tournament.
Caitlin Maurice shot 78 to round out the five in the lineup.
Florencia Dufey matched that score as an individual while
Genevieve Cha and
Guadalupe Dabos each shot 81.
Baylor (3-under) and New Mexico State (2-under) were the only teams under par during the first round. Gonzaga is in third place at 5-over and is followed by Sacramento State (7-over) and Nevada (8-over) in the top five.
The second round will begin at 12 p.m. PT on Tuesday. The Hornets will be paired with Baylor, New Mexico State and Gonzaga.
