DUGGER RECORDS SECOND ROUND OF 66 TO TAKE SHARE OF LEAD

Men's golf moves up to sixth place after second round of Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Luke Dugger became the first golfer in school history to record back-to-back rounds of 66 or better as he shot his second consecutive round of 66 at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Tuesday at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

Dugger's total of 66-66-132 moved him into a tie for the lead with Grand Canyon's Tommaso Zorzetto. The pair have a two-stroke advantage over the remainder of the field. He started Tuesday with a par and moved to 2-under with birdies on the par-5 second and sixth. A double bogey on the par-4 ninth placed him even at the turn. That miscue has been his only bogey in the first two rounds. Dugger blew through the back side of the course beginning with a birdie on the par-4 10th. After two pars, he birdied Nos. 13 and 14 to get 3-under. A par on No. 15 was followed by an eagle on the 535-yard, par-5 16th and a birdie on No. 17 to get him to 6-under. The graduate student finished the round playing the four par-5 holes at 4-under par.

Zach Mate was just one stroke behind Dugger during the second round as he shot a 5-under par round of 67. Mate opened with five pars and then birdied the par-5 sixth and par-4 seventh to leave him at 2-under at the turn. He added two more birdies on Nos. 9 and 10 before his lone bogey of the round came on the par-4 12th. After three pars, Mate also eagled No. 16 and closed with a pair of pars.

Keaton Sutherland, who was playing as an individual, had the third-best score among the Hornets on Tuesday with a 72. Sutherland began his round on the back nine and was 1-over through nine holes with a double bogey on the par-4 14th and a birdie on No. 18. He dropped to even with a birdie on the par-4 first and then posted eight straight pars to end his day. Sutherland was the only player on the team to have a birdie on either Nos. 18 or 1.

Jake Aberle shot 74 and Gabriel Smith provided a 77 to complete the team total in the second round. Aberle parred the first 10 holes and moved to 1-under with a birdie on No. 11. After three more pars he returned to even with a bogey on the par-3 15th and ended with a double bogey on No. 18.

Smith had two birdies, three bogeys and a pair of double bogeys in his round. Jeffrey Perry rounded out the lineup with a 79.
