FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Sacramento State men's golf team produced its best round at the Ram Masters and finished in 11th place on Tuesday at Fort Collins CC. The Hornets shot 288 during the third round and concluded the tournament at 292-293-288-873.
Host Colorado State set a tournament record (17-under par) and won the event by 11 strokes. The teams were followed in the top five by Utah Valley, Wyoming and UC San Diego.
Casey Leebrick tied for 26th place after shooting 74-69-70-213. The senior posted an ever par round on Tuesday behind a strong final nine holes. Leebrick began his day on the 10th tee but was 3-over at the midway point of his round after bogeys on Nos. 11, 16 and 18. He recorded his first birdie on the par-3 second and added birdies on the par-5 seventh and par-4 eighth to get back to even.
Riley Bell and
Joe Fowler each shot 72 in the third round. Bell had a birdie on No. 15 and three bogeys over his first nine hole and then played the front side of the course even with nine pars. He totaled 72-73-72-217 to tie for 36th place. Fowler opened play with a birdie on No. 10 but was 1-over following a bogey on the par-4 18th. He moved back below par with birdies on the par-5 first and par-3 second before three bogeys over his final five holes left him at 2-over for the day. Overall, Fowler shot 71-76-72-219to tie for 46th.
Jeffrey Perry recorded his best round of the tournament with a 74 on Tuesday. Perry had four bogeys over his first six holes but played the final 12 holes even with a birdie on No. 18 and a bogey on the par-4 fourth. His birdie on No. 18 was the only one for the team on the hole over the final two rounds. Perry tied for 75th at 79-76-74-229.
Zach Mate tied for 68th with rounds of 75-75-77-227. Mate had a birdie, five bogeys and a triple bogey during the third round.
Utah Valley's Brady McKinlay was medalist after shooting 71-66-64-201 to finish at 9-under par.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Nick Watney Invitational in Kingsburg, Calif., on Sept. 26-27.
