- After starting just five offensive lineman throughout the season, Sacramento State was forced to use nine individuals in the starting lineup during its 2021 championship season. Six of those players return in 2022 giving the Hornets valuable experience up front.
- Brandon Weldon has started every game for the team in the last two seasons played. After taking over the job at right tackle in 2019, Weldon moved to right guard in 2021 where he earned second team all-Big Sky honors. He was one of just two players on the team to start all 12 games on the offensive line (Kooper Richardson) and was part of a unit which averaged 4.6 yards per rush and allowed just 18 sacks in 12 games.
- The duo of Ivan Garza and Jackson Slater played large roles for the team as freshmen with Garza starting the final 10 games at left tackle and Slater the last nine at left guard. The pair were pressed into early action after a series of injuries left the team shorthanded.
- One of those injuries came from Troy Stieflel who was the starter at left tackle in the first two weeks until a bicep injury sidelined him following the game at Cal. Stiefel is expected to return in 2022 where he brings 20 games of collegiate experience, including 15 starts.
- Don Long (right guard) and Nathan Mejia (center) each started a game last season and will contend for starting jobs this year. The team also returns Sawyer Hays, Aidan Meek, Tyler Perez, Kaden Richardson and Kenndel Riley.
- Paul Sogialofa transferred from Missouri State in the spring after starting the final six games of 2021 for the Bears, including their FCS Playoffs first-round game.
- All-American Marshel Martin returns at tight end and is expected to continue to rewrite the school record book. In two seasons, Martin has caught 92 passes for 1,199 yards and 13 touchdowns to set program records in each category. He was named first team all-Big Sky in 2021 and was a second team All-American by the AFCA.
- Charlie McBride is the only other tight end on the roster who has caught a pass as a Hornet. McBride has also been a valuable member on special teams for Sacramento State.
- Cobe Weeks and Will Schalde each redshirted last year while Coleman Kuntz and Austin Jarrard will be entering their first year with the program. Jarrard comes back to the Sacramento area after playing at Oklahoma State.
