NNAJI SETS TWO SCHOOL TOP 10S IN BUSY FRIDAY FOR TRACK & FIELD

AZUSA, Calif. — Shantel Nnaji recorded two school top five marks and had three top five finishes at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday. Her efforts led the Sacramento State track and field teams which competed at a pair of meets in Southern California during the day.

Nnaji moved into second place in program history and placed second at the meet with a discus throw of 167-11. Her throw was 4-feet beyond her previous best and was the longest by a Sacramento State athlete since Stacey Hom threw 170-03 in 1990.

Nnaji improved her fifth place standing in the school record book with a shot put 48-06.25. That effort placed her fourth at Mt. SAC and was 3.5 inches further than her previous long.

Nnaji added a fourth-place finish in the hammer where she recorded a mark of 186-02. Earlier this year, she set the school record in the event at 191-06. Nnaji is the only person in school history to be ranked in the top five of each event and is one of three ranked among the top 10 in the shot put, discus and hammer.

Erin Whelan moved into 10th place all-time at Sacramento State with a hammer throw of 176-04 which placed her seventh at the meet.

Jayde Charlton had the highest finish among Hornets in the running events on Friday. Charlton placed 12th in the 200 with a time of 24.47. Daysha Ford (24.71) and Gianna Scruggs (25.25) also set PRs in the event. Scruggs added a PR of 12.22 in the 100 while Ford set a career best in the 400 (57.97).

For the men, Jack Charlton set a career best in the 110-hurdles by running 15.63.

At the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Evan Stork advanced to the finals of the men's hammer throw following a best of 213-07. Stork, who has set the school record twice this season, is one of seven collegiate athletes in the finals.
