AZUSA, Calif. — Cagnei Duncan capped the second day of the Bryan Clay Invitational by setting the school record in the 5K with a time of 16:11.24.
Duncan took over 15 seconds off her previous best (16:26.96), which was set earlier this month, and topped Chloe Berlioux's school record of 16:13.20 which was set in 2015.
The day began with Eliana Coburn and Abby Sheets completing the heptathlon. Cobrun and Sheets, who were each competing in their first collegiate heptathlon, finished in 10th and 12th place, respectively in Section C of the meet. Coburn totaled 4,418 points after a long jump of 16-00.25; a javelin throw of 107-06 and an 800 in 2:28.75.
Sheets amassed 4,143 points behind second-day 16-05.25 in the long jump, 98-05 in the javelin and running the 800 in 2:33.21.
A day after moving into the top 10 in school history in the steeplechase, Tia Oliver returned to the track to run the 5K in 17:59.97 to lead the team. The fastest 5K for the Hornet men came from Aiden Maddison who ran 15:10.66.
The team had one competitor in the women's and men's 800. Sarah Collier recorded a time of 2:15.61 for the women while Zach Blackwood ran 1:55.79 in the men's race.
The Bryan Clay Invitational continues on Friday. Select members of the team will also compete at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday and Saturday.
