TRACK & FIELD WRAPS UP ASU INVITE WITH THREE SCHOOL TOP 10 PERFORMANCES

TEMPE, Ariz. — Three school top 10 marks highlighted the second day of the ASU Invitational for the Sacramento State track and field teams on Saturday at Arizona State.

Shantel Nnaji moved into fifth place in school history with a shot put of 48-02.75. That distance easily eclipsed her previous best of 45-02.75 and helped her to a fourth-place finish at the meet.

Cagnei Duncan finished second in the women's 1500 and ran the eighth fastest time in school history with a time of 4:26.90. Duncan, who was competing in the event for the first time this season, shaved nearly five seconds off her previous career best of 4:31.59 set in 2019.

The men's 4x400 relay team of Blaize Holland, Khalil Fowlkes, Nautus Moore and Jabari Reynolds recorded the ninth best time in school history with a time of 3:12.63.

Along with the school top 10s, the women also had four other season bests. Alexia Croffet tied her season best in the long jump (18-01.75) and set a best in the triple jump (38-04.75). Audrey McElmurry also set a PR in the long jump with a best of 16-08.50.

LaTrouchka Duke finished sixth in the 100 with a time of 11.73 which is the fastest in the Big Sky Conference this season and just off her career best of 11.67.

Two of the four men from the 4x400 relay also set PRs in the open 400. Khalil Fowlkes led the team with a career best of 48.06. Nautus Moore ran 48.78 which was nearly a half-second faster than his previous best.

Blaize Holland made his Hornet debut in the 100 and promptly ran 10.78 which ranks fourth in the Big Sky this season.

In the field events, Sawyer Howard had a shot put of 52-01.25 for his season best. The team also picked up a pair of provisional season bests in the long jump with Mason Mitchell (22-10.00) and John Gibbs (21-09.50). However, wind readings were not submitted with the initial results.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco on Apr. 1-2. The team will then host the Sacramento State Invite on Apr. 9 at Hornet Stadium.
