TRACK & FIELD STARTS ASU INVITE WITH OVER A DOZEN SEASON BESTS

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Sacramento State track and field team opened the ASU Invitational on Friday by setting 13 season bests.

The day began with Evan Stork placing fourth in the men's hammer with a throw of 209-05. The reigning Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week has now thrown over 200 feet in all three outdoor meets this season. George Harris placed 12th in the event but set his season best with a distance of 180-05.

The men also picked up a win from Miles Grant in the high jump. The freshman cleared 6-07.00 which was a quarter-inch above his previous high.

In the men's 200, Blaize Holland ran 21.46 to place 11th overall. The team also had three individuals set personal bests comprised of DeVonn Johnson (22.07), Khalil Fowlkes (22.18) and Nautus Moore (22.36).

Jack Charlton completed the evening for the men by advancing to the finals of the 110-hurdles. Charlton ran 15.79 and will be seeded ninth.

The Hornet women picked up a pair of PRs in the hammer with Erin Whelan throwing 169-05 to place eighth and Abby Meder finishing 13th at 149-10.

Abby Sheets tied for fifth place in the high jump after clearing 5-03.25. Sheets' previous best was 5-01.00.

All three entires in the women's 200 recorded season bests. The trio was led by LaTrouchka Duke who ran 24.41 to finish in 10th place. That time was one one-hundredth off of her career best. Jayde Charlton ran 24.87 to finish in 15th place while Gianna Scruggs posted a time of 25.62.

Freshman Eliana Coburn set her wind-legal season best in the 100-hurdles at 15.42.

Shantel Nnaji competed in the discus for the first time this season and responded with a throw of 157-11 to place 11th.

The meet will continue on Saturday beginning with the women's long jump at 10:30 a.m. The first running event will be the women's 4x100 relay at 3 p.m.
